okay. scala is a place where keyblade wielders gather and train. in the centre tower, there's the classrooms and training halls for the upper and lower classes.
around the city there's stalls selling snacks and items to help with travel. there's the cable cars and elevators to get around, but the distant cities are all abandoned.
i like sitting on the pier and looking out at the ocean before class.
whoa, the way you explain it, it sounds like it is pretty busy. there is really classes for wielders like you? do you have a lot of friends with you every day?!
i never got to go to school for being one. it kind of just fell on me one day and i figured it out.
it must be so fun to be there with more people around! and i bet the ocean is just as pretty as the ocean is here.
but everything else was abandoned? what do you mean
yes, it's a busy place. i'm in the lower class at the moment. classes are seven students, so yes, i'm with my friends every day. it's a bit boring sometimes, listening to lectures and going through forms, but my friends make it fun. most of us live in the tower as well. before i came here, there was a few problems... so i'm worried. i miss them very much.
roxas mentioned just having keyblades and not having them bequeathed as well. that seems really strange to me, but i guess it's a mysterious thing, the keyblade. you've clearly got it all sorted in your own way.
they're all empty. no one really knows why. it's lost information - trust me, i've tried to find out.
it sounds like you had really great school days with your friends, xehanort. i'm sorry problems happened, though...
my best friend riku used to tell me he learned about keyblades being handed down to other people before. but i don't know, i don't think that's always the case. i mean, look at roxas too.
yes, they've been good. i hope that... we can resolve the problems able to be fixed, and go back to training for the mark. do you still have that, in your time?
it seems like it's not always the case. some of the history books i've read hinted at other ways of obtaining a keyblade - it's a weapon of the heart, after all. if one's heart is strong enough, maybe that's all it needs.
the mark of mastery test, you mean?! yeah! i've done mine before!
i failed but that's okay, riku passed and that made the whole test worth it. i'll be a master just like him someday, i hope. he better wait up for me, actually.
anyway... i was just thinking. i really do wish i could have met you back then. i think it would have been really nice to get to know you at school like that. do you think we could have been friends?
you have? you're very young to have taken the exam. it's not usually done until at least the age of twenty in scala, often older depending on the master conducting it. it's okay to fail - a lot of people do the first time. i'm sure you'll make it someday. i'd like to hear about your exam sometime.
[ the second part takes some time to be written. a lot of "typing..." dots and deletions. ]
well... it may be "back then" for you, but it's "now" for me. so you can still get to know me, if you want. you're a good person, sora, i can tell. if you're willing to accept me, despite everything, we can still be friends.
[It was a pretty tough exam with things on it that Sora didn't quite grasp as well as Riku did at the time. But it was a pretty unconventional exam as well, so it feels a little better to read that it's okay that he failed. Sora thinks so as well. Since he as so incredibly proud and happy for Riku at the time that he barely even worried about passing, in the end.
Waiting for that next message makes Sora so curious. When he sees it, it makes him feel some sort of way too... He never thought he'd be having a conversation like this with Xehanort- of all people. But he's happy he reached out.]
yeah, you're right. it's "now" for you, so that's what i gotta remember.
i think it'd really, really like being friends. i wanna know more about you too.
[ if you ever tell him about the exam, you can tell him about those parts. and not the parts about his not-so-older self trying (successfully) to kidnap you, maybe.
it warms him, to hear this from sora. a reminder back to when he'd first arrived in scala, an outsider of unknown origin, and those distrustful looks from the city's populace were cut through by six others his own age willing to try. for his sake. ]
it's okay if you forget sometimes. i understand that it's difficult, but i'd really like that, too.
i think if you ever meet my friends, they'll like you a lot. vor and eraqus, especially.
yeah. heh, that's great. that means we should hang out again sometime soon, okay?
and it would be really cool if i got to meet your friends! people keep talking about these rift things. the ones we came here through too. so maybe i could meet them someday.
[Is it the same Eraqus that Sora's seen? He's wondering...]
sure. i'm usually at the surasthana cafe if you want to come by sometime. the coffee here is good.
while it's a little selfish, i can't help but hope they'll come here one day. eraqus is always late anyway, so it would make sense for him at least to just appear like he's been here the whole time.
i like sweet things mostly, so coffee wasn't really something i drank much before. but anything kaveh makes is good.
[ this does feel a bit like an interview... but for some reason, answering sora seems easy. ]
when i first arrived in scala, eraqus was the first one to try and make friends with me, even though he didn't have to. he taught me to play chess, and though he says he's best at being late and running away, he's actually always leaping in to help people.

maybe it'd be like seasickness, where people would just have to learn to deal with it. find ways to distract themselves.
no subject
i bet that would still be hard to deal with it, huh. one look at the clear water and you'd feel like you're a million miles up
i hope no one around here feels that way
no subject
destiny islands, huh.
i hope no one feels that way, either. it would be really unfortunate to end up in a world like this with a fear of the ocean.
no subject
i think the ocean can be scary. but it can be really amazing and beautiful too. i hope people love the ocean here.
no subject
it's different here with all the ships and transport. life here is made for the ocean.
no subject
do you like the ocean though?
no subject
yes, i like it on its own merit. you've seen scala, right? there's no denying it's a beautiful place. at least, i hope it still was when you saw it.
no subject
and scala ad caelum was one of the prettiest places i've ever been too. it was like walking into a dream.
no subject
i thought the same thing when i first arrived there. so complicated and confusing, but beautiful.
no subject
yeah, it was amazing. it was so empty when i was there but you know, it really was one of the best places i've ever got to see
i wish i could have seen it when you were there
[You know. The younger one being there. Not the old one.]
no subject
do you want me to tell you a little about it? and you can tell me a bit about the islands.
no subject
[He loves his friends very much.]
and yeah, i'd love to know about your scala ad caelum.
